It was just a matter of time until one of us blogged about Michael Jackson and his recent exit from the stage of life. Most of you will know that he was scheduled to do 50 shows at the 02 Arena in London. Well, now that he’s a gonna, AEG Live (who were responsible for signing him for the shows) have to give back all the money to people who bought the tickets.

Ouch.

So, those clever business people put on their thinking caps and came up with what in my opinion is a BRILLIANT strategy. Ticket holders are given a choice of a full refund or keeping their tickets as a memento. Even if only 10-20% of people keep their tickets it will save them A LOT of money. Did I mention ‘brilliant’ already?

Listening to CBC on the way home yesterday I heard songs from Polaris Music Prize 2009 short list winners. The winning band will win $20,000 and be celebrated as the best new Canadian music artist.

It was just a matter of time until I did a blog post about Prince (I am a big fan). Well here goes.

When a musician can charge US$2,100 for a book and an ipod they are obviously doing something right. Last year Prince released a book of photographs by Randee St. Nicholas of his 21 night concert series at The 02 in London, England. The new Prince Opus book is a reprint but on sexier paper with a purple ipod showcasing performance highlights from the 21nights performances.

Prince is making a killing here on these books but for one lucky person who buys the book they will be the winner of a cash prize of $37,000 (not bad).

By the way, the music on the Opus book site is great, make sure you have the volume turned up.

I heard this whilst listening to my usual English Radio 1 Scott Mills podcast, it is by an Australian band called The Axis of Awesome, they remind me of Jack Blacks band Tenacious-D.

I love vynl, bring back the LPs back to the mainstream – OK, back to reality. I found this BEAUTIFUL company producing not only great sonic performance beyond all expectations normally associated with their price but are extraordinarly sexy turntables.

I have heard people play the Theremin but never like this, the video is 20 minutes long, watch it or listen to it in the background, it is well worth it.

The theremin is one of the earliest fully electronic musical instruments. It was invented by Russian inventor Léon Theremin in 1919, and it is unique in that it was the first musical instrument designed to be played without being touched. The controlling section generally consists of two metal antennas to sense the relative position of the player’s hands. These sensors control audio oscillator(s) for frequency from one hand, and volume from the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker.
